Sam Stoner Coal Forged Skinner w/ Textured Bocote Wood & L-6

Sam Stoner / Scottsville, KY Coal Forged Handmade Clip Point Skinner with Textured Bocate Wood Handles and Forged L-6 Tool Steel

A rarity among custom knifemakers in that he is an Old Order Mennonite and does not use any electricity or motors in his shop. All of his equipment is connected to pulleys and belts on a overhead drive shaft which is powered by two large draft horses walking on a treadmill. Instead of forging his blades in a gas furnace he uses a hand crank coal fired forge. (which provides for a more even and adjustable air flow).

Most of us are inconvenienced by a couple of hours of no electricity whereas it is hard to imagine running a complete knife shop without electric!

This Large Skinner is the perfect field knife. Clip Point Blade measures 5" (4 5/8" sharpened edge). Overall length is 9 3/4". The "Forged Finished" Blade, (part of the blade left unfinished after being forged), is made of L-6 Tool Steel with Hand Textured Bocote Wood Handles which is an exotic wood native to Mexico, Central America, and the West Indies. The texturing gives the user a better grip. This is a no nonsense traditional styled skinner that features heavy duty full tang construction which is extremely comfortable & shaving sharp.

The handmade leather sheath is a deep fitting sheath designed so you won't lose it in the field.. Blade is marked with the maker's initials SS. The perfect piece for those who want a blade made the traditional true way (coal forged), and are looking for a practical, handmade, razor sharp skinner.

This model will appeal to collectors, hunters, rendezvous/ re-enactor folks, or the general outdoorsman/ lady.  Sam is a member of the ABS; (American Bladesmith Society). AIK offers the largest selction of Sam's knives.
