RARE Vintage LATAMA "Pig Sticker" Folding Boar Dagger w/ Horn
[LATAMA-PS]

Rare! LATAMA (50's era piece) (Italy) Traditional Folding Boar Dagger "Pig Sticker" Manual Folding Knife with Folding Guard

Unique "dual purpose" knife operates by pressing the Flush mount Nickel Silver button which unlocks the Blade. Finger Guards fold out with the blade.  Blade locks in the open position and acts as a large skinner/dagger in the open, "unfolded" position. When closed the extra long blade extends out of the handle and acts as a "skinner" . Mirror Polished Stainless Blade (which is razor sharp), measures 8" (7 3/8" sharpened edge). When folded in the "skinner" position the blade is 4 1/4". Blade is marked "LATAMA MADE   ITALY". Blade locks into the handle when closed. The hole in the blade is for the locking pin. Overall length fully extended is 12 1/8". High quality piece, completely handmade in Maniago Italy by one of the most recognized names in classic switchblades "LATAMA", but wait...........this is not a switchblade.......

This makes this piece highly unusual and collectible..Latama which was the name of a import company, (there never was a Latama "factory"), was operated and founded by a man named Jack Polincovsky who fortunately changed his name to Sam Polk, back in the 1950's that imported what most collectors considered the finest name in switchblades. In addition to switchblades, Latama (Polk), also imported regular knives that had the Latama name on them. More recently the Latama trademark name was purchased,  and the name is now being used again on recent made Italian Classics. (These are actually being made by Frank Beltrame).

Exceptional Genuine Buffalo Horn Handles with brass liners, nickel silver bolsters and a unique "folding guard", that folds open and/or closed with the blade. (Lockback release). We recently acquired this from a collection. We have never seen a "pig sticker" from Latama. A superb quality, handcrafted piece. (No Sheath). Includes a custom zippered storage pouch. A very old design that dates to the 19th century the "pig sticker" is used on boar hunts today; and extends out to cut the pig's throat, then folds up to skin the prize. (Hubertus makes a model of this with a lever rather than a flush mounted  button. Although the lever action resembles the Hubertus style of automatics, this model is manually operated.)
