Oddball R. Burnett (Edinburgh, Scotland) Switchblade with Buffalo Horn and Copper Bolsters

Features Polished Buffalo Horn Handles with Copper Bolsters and Copper Flush Mount Button and Bail. Side opening; leaf spring activated.

Heavy Duty 5mm backspring construction.(Weighs 6.5oz)  4" (actual sharpened edge is 3 1/2") Polished Sheepsfoot Carbon Steel Blade.  Blade has a patina with obvious staining and pitting. (But has been cleaned)  Blade is marked "R. Burnett 70 Leith St Edinburgh"Lockback release with Brass Liners.

Measures 4 7/8" closed. Extremely unusual piece. Measures 8 5/8" overall open.  Action is positive. Excellent lock up. (Slightest up/down movement in open position).Overall construction is very good. We have never come across a similar model in the near 40 years we've been dealing switchblades, so we must presume it is a custom made model based on an antique folder from "R Burnett".

Includes a custom zippered pouch.  Condition is very good. (Based on the age) Blade is centered. Carbon steel blade is polished and shows patina/pitting. A nice piece for the collection even though it cannot be authenticated!

Info about R. Burnett: Robert Burnett had a watch and cutler business at 70 Leith Street, Edinburgh, Scotland at the turn of the 20th century where. according to the Edinburgh Post Office Directory of 1899-1911, he sold watch material and cutlery. Burnett had razors made for him by some unknown German firm which stamped his company name and address on the merchandise.
