Vintage American FLYLOCK KNIFE COMPANY (1918-1929) Bridgeport, CT AUTOMATIC Safety & Fisherman's Outdoor Knife Model 11005 with Black Grooved Bakelite Handles

Made prior to 1930, this is a superb example for a knife to be over 90 years old!  A true example of vintage Americana; the FLYLOCK brings back memories of the "good ole days"!  Extremely hard to find this model. This fine example features Black Grooved Bakelite handles. No pin cracks evident.

There is a lanyard hole toward the base of the handle above the bottom bolster, a most unusual option for this time period, whereas the bail was more common.

The FLYLOCK was named for the release button which you slide downward to activate the blade. Since you have to slide the release button downward this substitutes for the safety. Measures 5" closed.

Features a 3 5/8" satin finished (3 1/4" sharpened edge) clip point blade with a top fish scaler. Blade is clean and full. Blade is etched "FLYLOCK" with "STAINLESS STEEL" (which is very faint). It is extremely rare to find a model with the etching remainng, as it was often polished off from cleaning the blade. Blade is clean on both sides with little to no pitting or staining; this of course is the result of the stainless steel. (Being made prior to 1930; you rarely see stainless steel on a vintage American knife. Nickel Silver Top Bolsters.

Switchblade opening Action is superb. This is one of the easier FLYLOCK models to operate, as many find that sliding the button downward is difficult to do, and original owners would often carve the handle material out around the button slide for better access. Blade seats right below the steel liners and hugs one side. Blade has movement (up & down & side to side) in the open position.

Overall a superb example of a vintage American classic. The original name for this model was "FLYLOCK AUTOMATIC SAFETY & FISHERMAN'S OUTDOOR KNIFE". Tang stampings are clean and sharp and read "FLYLOCK REG. U.S. PAT OFF US PAT 3-5-18" on the frontside with "THE FLYLOCK KNIFE CO B'PORT CONN." with an "S" for stainless blade. Features a steel top bolster. Original cost was $3.00.

These are very rare. Condition is Very Good+. Includes a custom zippered pouch.
