Sam Stoner (Amish Made) Scottsville, KY Double Edged Roman Gladiator Pig Sticker (Boar Hunter) with Aged Elk Antler Handles

Sam is a rarity among custom knifemakers in that he is an "Old Order Mennonite" and does not use any electricity or motors in his shop. All of his equipment is connected to pulleys and belts on a overhead drive shaft which is powered by two large horses walking on a treadmill. 

Instead of forging his blades in a gas furnace he uses a hand crank coal fired forge. (which provides for a more even and adjustable air flow). Most of us are inconvenienced by a couple of hours of no electricity! 

 This piece, dubbed a "Roman Gladiator" or "Pig Sticker" features a 9 5/8", (9" sharpened double edge) with a deep blood groove, (fullered), Hollow Ground Double Edged Blade, (both sides sharpened and measures 2" wide), is made of Forged 5160 Tool Steel, (which will hold a superb edge and is easy to re-sharpen), with Aged Elk Antler Handles secured with copper pins . Overall length is 14 1/2". Heavy Duty Full Tang Construction.

It weighs 14.1 oz (1lb 4 oz with the sheath).  The extra heavy duty leather sheath is also made by Sam. The blade is marked with the maker's initials SS.  Turn of the century styled, it will appeal to the reinactor, renaissance or rendezvous folks, or those who want a blade made the traditional true way, (coal forged), with the traditional look, while remaining fully functional.
