Rare Presto Vintage American Large Metal Paratrooper
[PRESTO-MTL5]

Vintage PRESTO 1929-1956 (Geo Schrade) Bridgeport, CONN Late 1940's era Paratrooper Style Switchblade (Large Version 5" Closed)

PRESTO was the name George Schrade (Bridgeport, Conn) used for the majority of their knives. This model was a civilian issue based on the military Paratrooper Knife which although not an offical military issue it still adds high cross over interest to the collectors of both militaria and automatic knives.

It Measures 5" closed. Overall length open is 8 3/4". The 3 3/4" Mirror polished Clip point Blade is marked "PRESTO MADE IN U.S.A." on the front of the tang and "GEO. SCHRADE BRIDGEORT. CONN." on the backside. Black painted Metal Handles are formed to look like stag. A smaller version of this model (exact; except for it's size), measures 4 1/8" closed.

Polished Carbon Steel Blade appears to be full and is mostly clean on both sides including the tangs which are nice and clean/clear. Blade seats deep into the handle. Metal Handles are excellent with no dents. Originally painted a solid black, the handles have the typical wear on the high points giving it a mottled look. Safety works fine. Spring Action is positive with excellent lockup in the open position. Sometimes this model has a bail at the base, this one does not.

Normally when found this model is heavily worn and is in very poor condition due to heavy use.. This is a exceptional example that would be considered to be very good+  condition. Includes a custom zippered storage pouch.
