Rare Vintage American Made "Shapleigh Hardware" Double Button Switchblade. 

Early American made piece made for the St Louis, MO based company by Schrade Cut Co. It is identified by the tang on the 1 7/8" Main Blade which is marked "SHAPLEIGH HDW CO" with the letters D-E inside a diamond (which stood for "Diamond Edge"). Other blade which measures 1 5/8" is marked on the tang  "US PATS FEB 13 06, FEB 26 07, SEPT 13, 10".

 Dual buttons, blades, and safties with bolsters.. Both blades are Carbon Steel and show staining, pitting and a patina.  Handles are "Black & White Celluloid" Handles with Brass Liners . Measures 3 3/8" Closed.  Sliding safeties work on both sides. Overall fair condition.. Both Blades peek above the liners when closed. Main blade is lazy and does not open fully. Pen Blade opens without bounce back.

 Handles have cracks at both rivets below the safeties and at the safety on one side...Models marked Shapleigh Hardware or Norvell Shapleigh are much less common and are extremely hard to find. Priced accordingly.
