Rare HUBERTUS "Slim Jim"  Model (12cm) FALCONER Model with Stag Handles Made for J.P. Sauer & Sohn

 A most unusual piece from Hubertus of Solingen Germany and designed for Falconry with Birds of Prey, this 12cm (7 5/8" overall open) 'Slim Jim Springer" features a 3 1/4" Mirror Polished Solingen Stainless spear point blade that is etched with a Falcon on the front and the initials/logo "JS SOLINGEN" on the backside. The initials are for J.P.SAUER & SOHN" which was established in 1751.

When hunting with birds of prey, the Falcon is trained to bring the captured prey to the Falconer while still alive, and the Falconer must then kill the captured prey. The special blade grind prevents the claw (talon), of the Falcon from being injured, as only a portion of the blade edge is sharpened (approx the first 1 1/8" of the blade), the remaining part of the blade, which is identified by a arched indention in the blade, is blunt to prevent any damage to the bird's talon.

These knives were made special for the association of Belgium falconeers' (Belgische Vereniging van Vlaamse Valkeniers en Havikeniers vzw) and are customized for the special use of falconeers. This falconeers' association has a history exceeding more than 40 years.
