This unique auto operates via "Leaf Spring" and is activated by sliding the lever upward. Lockup and action are superb. The mirror polished carbon steel blade measures 3 1/2". It features nickel silver bolsters and brass liners, and measures 4 1/2" closed. This model features a tang stamping of AC MFG Co" MARINETTE, WIS on the front side and on the backside is marked "PAT. OCT. 23rd 1916". Features beautifully matched "torched" Stag Handles. In addition to "A.C. MFG Co", this model was also tang stamped "JAEGER BROS" and "AERIAL".

During the early 1970's a batch of these were made from original parts from the factory, in an effort to restart the factory. The original; very early, vintage models featured Celluloid and/or Mother of Pearl Handles, (some also were made with Stag). The quality of these is excellent, and they are the among the few of the early Vintage American Made autos that were not made by Schrade.

The company was formed shortly after the turn of the 19th century, by Fred Jaeger, Sr.,who sold knives, razors, scissors, and barber supplies to the back country mines, mills and lumber camps of Duluth, Minnesota. The name "Aerial" originated from a large suspension bridge that spanned the St. Louis Bay connecting Duluth and Superior.(Minnesota) .The company name ''Aerial'' would remain even though, in 1912, they moved the company's manufacturing facilities to Marinette, Wisconsin. Originally named Aerial Cutlery Manufacturing Company; it was shortened to Aerial Cutlery Company or A.C. Mfg Co. which is what this model is marked.

Aerial was also known for their "picture knives" or "naughty lady" picture knives  under the brand names such as ''Jaeger Bros.'' Or ''A. C. Mfg. Co.''; and later for the manufacture of the military trench knife and M-1 bayonets during World War II. Their knives are today considered among the better collectibles.

The company discontinued making knives sometime in the 1950's. The original building was destroyed by a fire in 2006..This piece is in excellent overall condition. Some light pitting or minor staining on the carbon steel blade. Mechanically functions excellent. We have seen these sell for as high as $795.. Includes a custom zippered pouch.
