This is the second review I have written a review for an AIK product within two weeks. The first was for the Brown Recluse Wasp Body which is, as I said, THE best built handmade switchblade I’ve ever seen.
I also mentioned that at the time, I was shopping for a Renzo Pascotto, so you might say that while I started in search of an old master, I ended up going with the New Master: Andrew Lee Adams.
The Brown Recluse is a beautiful example of Andrew’s design and construction genius; this particular Pro-Tech Don is a testament to his engraving mastery.
So…The A.L.A.-Engraved Pro-Tech Don with Woolly Mammoth Molar Scales: What can I say? Andrew has taken a high quality (but still ordinary CNC-machined) knife and transformed it into something extraordinary.
The excellence of his engraving has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
The more closely I look at this knife, the more amazed I become. Here is an artisan who is not only skilled but also has TASTE. What a talent! And I wonder: how many hours did this take the man? It HAD to take AT LEAST 20 hours to complete this incredibly detailed engraving job, not to mention cutting, finishing and fitting the gorgeous mammoth molar scales. It must be truly a labor of love!
Obviously, I’m not a CNC-machined type knife collector, but hey —more power to those of you who that are. CNC machining is ideal when it comes to making ultra-reliable EDC knives used for self-defense or as tools. (my EDC is a Microtech Stitch), but Andrew has taken a perfectly fine CNC knife—handsome in its own right— and made it into something too rare & precious to carry around and too beautiful to hide in a pocket.
Many, many thanks to you, Andrew, for making this knife and to you, my dear wife Karyn, for letting me buy it.
With Admiration and Respect,
John Isham
